This role ensures fieldwork is performed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications, applicable regulations, and industry standards. The Survey Crew Chief plays a key role in establishing effective workflows, maintaining quality control, and delivering reliable survey data that supports engineering design and construction efforts.</p> <p data-start="379" data-end="957"><br></p> <p data-start="379" data-end="957">We’re looking for someone with experience who can start on a <strong data-start="61" data-end="85">PRN, as-needed basis</strong>, with the potential to move into a <strong data-start="121" data-end="161">part-time role depending on workload</strong>, and possibly transition into <strong data-start="192" data-end="240">full-time employment if the work supports it.</strong></p> <p data-start="959" data-end="991"><strong data-start="959" data-end="989"><br></strong></p> <p data-start="959" data-end="991"><strong data-start="959" data-end="989">ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p> <ul data-start="992" data-end="2853"> <li data-section-id="ry9bjz" data-start="992" data-end="1112"> Lead the daily operations of field surveys, ensuring the timely and accurate completion of survey assignments. </li> <li data-section-id="b1tcqs" data-start="1113" data-end="1227"> Conduct various types of surveys, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, and as-built surveys. </li> <li data-section-id="2udmcv" data-start="1228" data-end="1314"> Perform field calculations and make adjustments as needed to ensure data accuracy. </li> <li data-section-id="152kp6t" data-start="1315" data-end="1424"> Operate and maintain survey equipment, including total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and data collectors. </li> <li data-section-id="c4gee7" data-start="1425" data-end="1528"> Verify the accuracy of field data and oversee the preparation of detailed field notes and sketches. </li> <li data-section-id="e790gg" data-start="1529" data-end="1654"> Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and CAD designers to coordinate survey tasks and meet project requirements. </li> <li data-section-id="acqn2o" data-start="1655" data-end="1779"> Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to address survey-related questions or issues. </li> <li data-section-id="1qykfxf" data-start="1780" data-end="1887"> Provide input during project planning by offering insight into site conditions and survey requirements. </li> <li data-section-id="eondrn" data-start="1888" data-end="2029"> Train, mentor, and supervise survey crew members to ensure compliance with safety protocols, company standards, and project expectations. </li> <li data-section-id="1u48uum" data-start="2030" data-end="2144"> Foster a positive team environment that emphasizes professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement. </li> <li data-section-id="1o7sykm" data-start="2145" data-end="2249"> Manage crew schedules to ensure the efficient use of resources and timely completion of assignments. </li> <li data-section-id="ir8nbd" data-start="2250" data-end="2365"> Ensure all survey work complies with regulatory standards, legal requirements, and project-specific guidelines. </li> <li data-section-id="x72rkm" data-start="2366" data-end="2469"> Review and validate field data before submitting it to the engineering team for design integration. </li> <li data-section-id="1ni9720" data-start="2470" data-end="2555"> Maintain accurate records of survey work, equipment usage, and project timelines. </li> <li data-section-id="1ba90x4" data-start="2556" data-end="2667"> Oversee the maintenance and calibration of survey instruments and tools to ensure reliability and accuracy. </li> <li data-section-id="gwutcu" data-start="2668" data-end="2801"> Stay current with advancements in surveying technology and recommend equipment upgrades or process improvements when appropriate. </li> <li data-section-id="fod5v7" data-start="2802" data-end="2853"> Perform other duties as assigned by management. </li> </ul> <p data-start="2855" data-end="2894"><strong data-start="2855" data-end="2892">KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE</strong></p> <ul data-start="2895" data-end="3726"> <li data-section-id="16x4st4" data-start="2895" data-end="3036"> High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is preferred. </li> <li data-section-id="140fvvu" data-start="3037" data-end="3156"> Minimum of 5 years of field survey experience, including at least 2 years in a Crew Chief or other leadership role. </li> <li data-section-id="1oqlsxn" data-start="3157" data-end="3287"> Proficiency in operating survey instruments, including GPS/GNSS systems, robotic total stations, and data collection software. </li> <li data-section-id="1nzohul" data-start="3288" data-end="3386"> Strong understanding of boundary law, topographic mapping, and construction layout principles. </li> <li data-section-id="1et851y" data-start="3387" data-end="3459"> Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D and other CAD platforms is a plus. </li> <li data-section-id="8ak1i4" data-start="3460" data-end="3581"> Florida Surveyor in Training (SIT/STI) or Professional Surveyor and Mapper (PSM) certification is strongly preferred. </li> <li data-section-id="1oxena3" data-start="3582" data-end="3646"> Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. </li> <li data-section-id="1tenbe3" data-start="3647" data-end="3726"> Knowledge of local, state, and federal surveying standards and regulations. </li> </ul> <p data-start="3728" data-end="4542"><strong data-start="3728" data-end="3748">PHYSICAL DEMANDS</strong><br data-start="3748" data-end="3751"> To perform the essential functions of this position, the individual must be able to meet the physical demands associated with both field and limited office work. This role requires frequent fieldwork and site visits, including walking on uneven terrain and working in outdoor conditions such as heat, humidity, and rain, as well as in and around active construction zones. Field activities may involve carrying equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and standing or moving for extended periods. The individual must also be able to maintain regular attendance, follow instructions, understand workplace materials, and communicate effectively with others.
